Does Jesus demand you to tithe or does man?

We believe when man compels/persuades people to tithe out of legal obligation they are guilty of extortion.
What do you believe?

These following Bible verse teach that followers of Jesus are not to give by law or compulsion.

First, A Question: Does your church teach you the liberty of giving by the Holy Spirit or do they demand the 'tithe'? Churches
that require the law of tithing can only demand it on the 3rd year. Pastors who demand the tithe by law are limited to
room and board and are prohibited from owning property. Do you know of a Pastor who requires the tithe, but yet he
doesn't obey the law of the tithe? The Bible say’s if you live according to the law you become a debtor to keep the whole
law.

Jesus Came To Set At Liberty The Oppressed!

Moses Established Levitical Law Of Tithing - Only Required Every Third Year!
Deuteronomy 14:27-29 You shall not forsake the Levite who is within your gates, for he has no part nor inheritance with you.
“At the end of every third year you shall bring out the tithe of your produce of that year and store it
up within your gates. And the Levite, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you, and the
stranger and the fatherless and the widow who are within your gates, may come and eat and be
satisfied, that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.
Moses’ Levitical law mandates a four-way split of the tithe!
The storehouse was to provide a welfare fund using 75% of all tithes!
The tithe was to bless the poor, not put a yoke of bondage on them!
Deuteronomy 26:12 “When you have finished laying aside all the tithe of your increase in the third year—the year of
tithing—and have given it to the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, so that they
may eat within your gates and be filled, then you shall say before the LORD your God: ‘I have
removed the holy tithe from my house, and also have given them to the Levite, the stranger, the
fatherless, and the widow, according to all Your commandments which You have commanded me;
I have not transgressed Your commandments, nor have I forgotten them.

According to the Levitical Law of tithing established by Moses,
priests are limited to room and board, as the Levitical Law
prohibits priests from owning property.
Joshua 14:3 Moses had granted the two-and-a-half tribes their inheritance east of the Jordan but had not
granted the Levites an inheritance among the rest,
Joshua 18:7 The Levites, however, do not get a portion among you, because the priestly service of the
LORD is their inheritance.
Are We Under The Law Or Not?
NEW COVENANT
Hebrews 9:16 say’s, For where there is a testament, there must also of
necessity be a death of the testator. Before Jesus died to establish His
testament, the new covenant, He said to those still under the law at that time;
Matthew 23:23-26 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and
have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to
have done, without leaving the others undone. Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a
camel! “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and
dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside
of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also.
Hebrews 8:6-13 Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will
make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— not according to
the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them
out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says
the LORD. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the
LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God,
and they shall be My people. None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying,
‘Know the LORD,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. For I will be
merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” In
that He says, “A new covenant, ” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete
and growing old is ready to vanish away.

Original Jewish Christians Set The Standards For Gentile Christians
Acts 15:1-29 But some of the sect of the Pharisees who believed rose up, saying, “It is necessary to circumcise
them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.” Now the apostles and elders came together
to consider this matter. And when there had been much dispute, Peter rose up and said to them: “Men
and brethren, you know that a good while ago God chose among us, that by my mouth the Gentiles
should hear the word of the gospel and believe. So God, who knows the heart, acknowledged them
by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He did to us, and made no distinction between us and
them, purifying their hearts by faith. Now therefore, why do you test God by putting a yoke on the
neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? But we believe that
through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved in the same manner as they.”
Therefore I judge that we should not trouble those from among the Gentiles who are turning to
God, but that we write to them to abstain from things polluted by idols, from sexual immorality,
from things strangled, and from blood Since we have heard that some who went out from us have
troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, “You must be circumcised and keep the
law”—to whom we gave no such commandment— it seemed good to us, being assembled with one
accord, to send chosen men to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, men who have risked their
lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who will also
report the same things by word of mouth. For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay
upon you no greater burden than these necessary things: that you abstain from things offered to
idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves
from these, you will do well.
Christian Liberty!
Galatians 5:1-18 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again
with a yoke of bondage. Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit
you nothing. And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to
keep the whole law. You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by
law; you have fallen from grace. For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of
righteousness by faith. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything,
but faith working through love. For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty
as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one
word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you bite and devour one
another, beware lest you be consumed by one another! I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall
not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh;
and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are
led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
Romans 7:6 …now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that
WE SHOULD SERVE IN THE NEWNESS OF THE SPIRIT
and not in the oldness of the letter.
Galatians 3:24-25 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after
faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.
Hebrews 7:18-19 For on the one hand there is an annulling of the former commandment because of its weakness
and un-profitableness, for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in
of a better hope, through which we draw near to God. (Read Hebrews chapters 7 & 8 for more clarity)
Philemon 1:14 But without your consent I wanted to do nothing, that your good deed might not be by compulsion,
as it were, but voluntary
1 Corinthians 13:3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have
not love, it profits me nothing.
2 Corinthians 9:7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a
cheerful giver.
Matthew 6:1 “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you
have no reward from your Father in heaven.
Matthew 9:13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the
righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
Matthew 12:7 But if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice,’ you would not have
condemned the guiltless.
What does God really want from us?
Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living
sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this
world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and
acceptable and perfect will of God.

New Covenant followers of Jesus are free to give as the Holy Spirit leads them. Does your Pastor teach & allow this liberty?
